Full-Circle Programme

The case for integrating accident and risk management

For a fleet to go Full Circle, we believe at RVM that you should be able to evidence a consistent approach to using a range of risk-based tools in conjunction with a claims monitoring programme and thereby demonstrate that the results of the latter feed into the strategy for the former.

There is an obvious synergy between pre-accident risk reduction and post-accident cost control but current practice is not to integrate them. This is why Full Circle represents a major opportunity for fleets. In fact it is more than likely that fleet operators have to outsource these two functions from different third party specialists.

At RVM we do not believe this works in the best interests of the fleet operator. It builds in delays, which can reduce the effectiveness of the training and requires unnecessary administrative input by the fleet operator.

It also makes it harder to evaluate and establish accountability for the results. In other words, if there is no significant reduction in frequency or cost, does the problem lie with the training recommendations or the training itself?

We often find the fleet operator is stuck in the middle trying to work out whether the accident manager is drawing the wrong conclusions or the quality of the risk tools that have been applied are inappropriate.

For this reason, RVM believes that the future lies in bringing risk reduction and accident management programmes together.

Our unique combination of these two programmes provides:

Claim cost containment
Analysis of key risk areas
Pro-active remedial action
Accountability for results

Additionally, our combined programme offers:

Driving Safety best practice
“Squeaky-clean” brand protection
Reduced claims experience
Reduced insurance costs
Compliance with latest Health and Safety legislation
Reduced fuel usage

The RVM approach to integrating these services has further benefits such as:

The lead time between trigger and delivery of training will be much shorter which will increase its impact and effectiveness.
The effectiveness of the risk reduction initiatives can be measured through the claims reports
One supplier becomes fully accountable - responsible for evaluating the results of the programme and how these flow into the strategy for the forthcoming year
The criteria for selecting drivers for training can be pre-set so the fleet operator no longer needs to be involved in that element
Accident management is typically charged as a fee per vehicle per month. An integrated programme could bring the advantages of this to the risk management / driver training element
An integrated accident management and risk reduction programme would save valuable management time for the fleet operator with only one supplier to manage – one tender, one invoice, one contact etc
